About
Classes use the full Pilates system, including reformer, chair, tower, jumpboard, arc and mat. Apparatus is chosen intentionally based on the day and the focus of the work.
Groups are kept small so there is room for hands-on feedback, real corrections, and individual attention, without losing the energy of moving together.
The environment is focused but relaxed. You are known by name. There are familiar faces, easy connection, and space to move without pressure.
Attention is paid to details like music, pacing, and transitions, with classes designed to support progress and carry into daily life.
Baxter Pilates opens in February as a small Pilates residency, with four-person classes held weekly in downtown Raleigh.
Class Types
Signature
Signature is a full-system class set to music, with careful attention to flow, pacing, and continuity. Classes move through the Mat, Reformer, and Chair with sequences designed to feel cohesive rather than segmented.
The work progresses week to week, allowing patterns to build and deepen over time. It’s focused and immersive, with space to settle into the rhythm of the class and notice how strength, control, and ease develop with consistency.

Jump Board
The Jumpboard is a fixed, padded surface attached to the end of the Reformer. It creates a firm wall for the feet to press into while the springs manage resistance and return. The body stays supported as force is applied and released in a steady, rhythmic pattern.
This jumpboard class offers cardio-based work on the reformer, supported by music and steady pacing. Jumping sequences are balanced with intervals on other apparatus, allowing for strength, control, and brief reset moments between rounds.

Groundwork Mat
This is a structured, music-supported class rooted in the original mat repertoire, with careful attention to order, transitions, and continuity. The work moves through the full classical sequence with an emphasis on flow and precision, allowing each exercise to prepare the body for what follows.
Classes progress week to week, so familiar patterns return and deepen over time. Rather than rushing or breaking the work into parts, the class unfolds steadily, giving space to settle into the rhythm of the sequence and experience how strength, control, and ease develop through consistency. This is focused, intentional mat work—designed to be practiced regularly and understood over time.
45 minutes — Open level
Chair + Reformer
The Chair is a compact, grounded piece of equipment with a single pedal that moves up and down against spring resistance. Solid and stable, it invites sitting, standing, and balancing while pressing into a surface that pushes back. Nothing moves unless you move it.
This class combines the Reformer and the Chair to explore strength, balance, and control from different angles. The reformer offers length and continuity, while the chair brings improved proprioception, and dynamic moments of challenge.
45 minutes
Tower + Chair
The Tower is a vertical frame attached to the Table (on the converted Reformer), fitted with springs at different heights and weights. The frame stays still while the springs provide resistance in clear, straight lines. It offers structure and direction for movement while lying down, sitting, kneeling, or standing.
The pacing is deliberate rather than rushed, with attention to alignment, transitions, and how power is generated and controlled. Expect clear, steady work that feels strong and engaging without becoming overwhelming.

Class Levels
Classes are organized by a color system rather than numbered levels, so you can choose the class that best suits what your body needs on any given day.
Green
Red
Slow-paced, foundational and grounding. Ideal for learning the system, building body awareness, returning from injury, or simply moving with more assistance.
Strength-focused and steady. Red provides a balanced level of support while encouraging more muscular engagement, endurance, and confidence in movement.
Yellow
Blue
Mastery and refinement. Yellow demands maximum internal strength, stability, and awareness. Movements are more complex, controlled, and deeply embodied.
Control and flow. Blue requires greater balance, coordination, and precision, with less reliance on the springs and more work coming from the body.
